Our newest Indie Dyer Showcase from Honey Girl Farms for September & October is on the Truck! We were first introduced to these beautiful yarns at Stitches West a couple of years ago. We were impressed so by all the beautiful colors, especially in the Outlander collection, and now we are super excited to have many of those colors, plus a bunch of others, on the Truck!
Shannah Harding, the creative force behind Honey Girl Farms, is based in Gerald, Missouri where she lives on a 10-acre farm. Her path to becoming a yarn dyer is really interesting! Shannah first worked at an Outdoor Store which featured a line of Merino Wool clothing and from selling those pieces, she gained a solid education in the properties of wool and why it is so much better than many other fabrics. Next, she became interested in permaculture and the sustainability practices surrounding this, so she took an online permaculture design course and moved by myself out onto a 10-acre farm. All of this, along with many fiber artist influencers growing up, started her on this path.
But Shannah’s dyer career actually started when she was young. Her first dyed object was a light-colored couch. When she was a child, she was allowed to get up early and watch tv until her parents were up. One special morning after her Mom has brought home a brand new couch, she decided to climb up and explore the kitchen cabinets. This where she found the most amazingly wonderful thing – liquid food coloring. She spent the morning coloring her Mom’s new couch. She thought it was the most beautiful thing ever, however, no one else was quite as proud of it as she was. They never had liquid food coloring in the house again until she was grown. But look at where this lead her! So many pretty things!
The name Honey Girl farms started while she was studying permaculture and became a beekeeper. She is a beekeeper first, then a shepherd and now a yarn dyer! Honey Girl Farms and all her fiber wonderfulness takes place on her 10-acre farm. Inspired by a love of color, she creates amazing colorways which we are excited to share with you! You’ll be able to see all the beautiful yarn colors she sent us for this showcase on the Truck starting with the San Diego Yarn Crawl!
