Join the Yarny Summer Gift Exchange
We had such a great time in December during our Holiday Yarny Gift Exchange that we’ve decided to do one this summer! Please join in the fun of the Yarnover Truck’s Yarny Summer Gift Exchange!
The usual holiday stress won’t be a part of this fun summer event! We’re hoping this will be a fun, light summer fun event!
Just like last time, you’ll be randomly assigned to another exchange participant to send a gift of yarn to and then you’ll receive a gift of yarn from a fellow yarn lover! Doesn’t that sound like fun?!?!
Here's How It Works
If you participated last time you’ll notice that we’re changing things up just a bit. This is a gift exchange for YARN and so all gifts MUST include yarn. If you want to include fun related extra items, that’s great but all gifts MUST include at least one skein of yarn. The value of the exchange gift should be between $30 – $40 (USD).
Please try and match this amount as best you can, so we’re all getting a gift of similar value. Again, your gift MUST include at least one skein of yarn and it CAN include more than just yarn if you choose, but please don’t exceed $40 max for your total.
Your yarn gift doesn’t have to be brand-new yarn, you’re more than welcome to do a little stash diving for the gift you send. We all probably have some yarns in our stash that would be very happy in a new home! Or feel free to buy something from the Truck. We’re happy to send your gift for you. We’re asking that ALL yarn sent as a gift must be in new condition (original packaging with all tags intact) and should have been kept in a smoke-free/pet-free area (to help with allergies).
Here’s a new and very important requirement. For the Yarnover Truck Yarny Summer Gift Exchange, everyone who signs up to take part MUST attend and participate in our Gift Exchange Unwrap Party via Zoom on Wednesday, August 25th. We’ll gather that evening at 6pm (pacific time) to unwrap and show off our gifts together! If you are not able to join us for the Zoom, please do not sign-up for this exchange.
We had several people last time who did not attend the Unwrap Party Zoom in December and unfortunately did not send acknowledgements of gift received. This left several people let down and a bit disappointed because they never knew if their gifts got to the intended person. We want to avoid this for our Yarnover Truck Yarny Summer Gift Exchange! This is why we’ve added this new requirement for participation. We hope you’ll understand and join in the fun!
Key Dates
Here’s are the key dates timeline for our Yarny Summer Gift Exchange:
- Sign-up start on Thursday, July 22nd and will be open until Tuesday, August 3rd. Be sure to type your email address correctly and PLEASE be sure to include your mailing address when you sign-up!
- We’ll draw names and do the pairings on Wednesday, August 4th
- After the draw, you’ll receive an email with the name & address of your gift recipient (this why it’s important to include your address when you sign-up).
- Next answer the Ice Break Questions and Create your Wishlist. (Keep reading for more on how to do this)
- Go shopping or stash dive to put together your gift.
- Please be sure to send all gifts out no later than Wednesday, August 18th. Everyone needs to have their gift in time for our party!
- Plan to join us on Wednesday, August 25th for a fun Unwrap Party via Zoom! (We’ll send out the link and details to all exchange participants one week before the party.
Gift Ideas and Wish Lists
We’re using the Elfster App & Website to help coordinate our Yarnover Truck Summer Yarny Exchange. When you get the page we’ve created for our exchange (Click HERE), the first thing to do is to Sign-up!
Next, please answer the two Ice Breaker questions we’ve asked of everyone regarding allergies and color choices.
Then, we recommend everyone create a Wish List to help your gift giver find the right thing just for you. Just click Add to Wishlist from the sign-up page, or cluck on Wishlists in the Main Menu along the top.
You’ll see links to several major retailers because this site gets a lot of use for generic, non-Yarn specific gift exchanges. Here’s how to add yarny items from either the Yarnover Truck Online Shop, or from other vendors who sell yarns.
When you get to the Wishlist page, it looks like the image above. The big companies are included toward the bottom of the page but if you click the “+ More Options” (in the red circle above) another smaller window will open (see the next image). Here you can cut and paste the URL from items in our Online Shop or any other website with the yarny item you want to add.
When you’re adding items to your Wishlist or looking for gifts to send, please try and match the $30-40 value as best you can, so we’re all getting a gift of similar value. Please remember that ALL gifts MUST include yarn, but you can definitely include fun extras, related to our craft but please don’t exceed the $40 max for your total.
You can definitely buy something from the Truck to send and we are happy to send it for you! When you place your order you are able to include a different mailing address. This is where you should include the gift recipient’s name and address. Just add a note when you’re checking out in the to let us know you want this sent as part of the Gift Exchange.
We’ll include a special note from you and add a sticker to the outside of the package so the recipient knows to keep it until our Gift Exchange Zoom Party on Wednesday, August 25th! You can also send stash yarn as long as it is in new condition (original packaging with all tags intact) and has been kept in a smoke-free/pet-free area.
