Our next Indie Dyer Showcase features the beautiful yarns from Asylum Fibers. This is another one of the dyers we discovered on our trip to Rhinebeck last fall and we are so exited to have their yarns on the truck this month!
Stephanie Jeanne is the creative force behind Asylum Fibers which launched in February 2017. The brand name was thought up in order to incorporate the playfulness of horror flicks while leveraging the other meaning of the word “asylum”, acknowledging that crafting is such a wonderful, meaningful form of therapy and comfort. Stephanie dyes within her Queens apartment in small batches, focusing on in-your-face, vibrant tones and one of a kind colorways on versatile and luxurious bases.
Stephanie comes up with her colors in three different ways. Living in New York City, she is never at a loss for inspiration. Sometimes it will come from an image or a photo and she creates a color way based on that. Other times it comes from a really great color name, and then she will determine what that should look like. And finally sometimes she craves a color in and of itself, and the name comes only after she has dyed up the skein.
We have 25 different colors in 4 different bases on the truck in 3 fingering weight bases: Solitary, Golden Rule & Funny Farm. Plus we have one DK base called Draft. Be sure to come out and see and feel them all while we have them on the truck!
Solitary is a luxurious single-ply fingering weight yarn, with just the right amount of twist and a glorious luster. Each skein contains 100% of Superwash Merino, with 400 yards/365 meters per 100 grams and costs $22

Golden Rule – This is a sparkly plump fingering weight with gold stellina. Each 438 yard skein (400 meters) has 75% Merino, 20% Nylon, 5% Gold Stellina. Each 100 gram skein costs $25.

Funny Farm – A plump, luxurious MCN fingering weight yarn with soft cashmere fiber and strengthened by nylon. Each contains 80% SW Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon with 382 yards/350 meters per 100 gram skein. Cost is $25
